Patagonia

On the southern tip of the South American continent Patagonia is home to some of the best trout fishing in the world. There are many great options for the adventurous angler but if you want giant sea-run Brown Trout head to the archipelago of Tierra del Fuego and the Rio Grande river.

New Zealand

It’s no secret that New Zealand has some of the finest trout fishing in the world, drawing a huge migration of American anglers in our winter months. Fortunately most people concentrate on a few select areas like the lake Taupo region. To get away from the crowds and into some spectacular landscape head to Fiordland national park on the South Island. With an extensive trail system and pristine coastline you can easily get away from the pack and into some of the best trout fishing in the world.

Kamchatka

Touted as being “Alaska 100 years ago” Kamchatka offers a wilderness like no other. If your looking for the ultimate Rainbow Trout destination in a true unspoiled frontier head to Russia’s hidden gem. Kamchatka can be on the pricey side, transportation to the rivers usually involve a helicopter ride, but catching a 30+ inch fat Rainbow is worth the expense. One word of caution, Kamchatka has the highest concentration of Grizzly bears in the world!!

Belize

Home to the second largest barrier reef in the world, Belize’s Caribbean coastline is a tropical paradise. With 450 cayes (islands) lining the coastline, Belize is the perfect location for sea kayaking and fly fishing. Turneffe Atoll gets most of the attention for fly fishing due to the lodges operating there but for the angler with an adventurous spirit fly into Placencia, rent a kayak and hit some of the best Permit and Bonefish territory in the Caribbean.

British Columbia, Canada

Five hours north of Vancouver the road ends at the southern tip of Desolation Sound, a marine park loaded with hidden bays and lagoons. The majority of the park can only be reached by boat or kayak, limiting the fishing pressure considerably. The bays and lagoons hold Salmon, Doly Varden, Rockfish, and Lingcod. A short hike from the ocean can put you at some outstanding lakes teaming with eager trout.
